The Wonderwoods project stands as one of the most innovative and sustainable architectural developments in The Netherlands, featuring two impressive residential towers (73m and 105m) designed as vertical forests in the heart of Utrecht in The Netherlands. This ambitious project encompasses 419 residential units alongside commercial spaces, with extensive green facades featuring native vegetation from the Utrecht Heuvelrug region.

Sketcho's Role and Contributions

As the dedicated BIM consultant for Terberg Totaal Installatie Groep, Sketcho played a pivotal role in the successful implementation of this complex project. Our team was responsible for modeling all mechanical systems modelling for the apartments across both towers, working in close collaboration with Terberg's engineering team throughout the project lifecycle.

Technical Challenges Overcome

The primary challenge tackled by Sketcho was the intricate task of incorporating extensive ducting and piping systems within the cast-in-situ floor structure. This presented exceptional difficulties due to:

  • Varying apartment layouts stacked vertically, creating potential clash points between systems

  • Extremely limited floor height that needed to accommodate all mechanical elements

  • Inability to cross ducts or pipes due to spatial constraints

Through meticulous BIM modeling and coordination, Sketcho successfully navigated these constraints, developing viable solutions that maintained both functionality and structural integrity.
